Fair enough, I made an incorrect assumption you are talking about GPU drivers. Agree mining software could easily be malicious as it is not open source.

That said the difference in level of risk is still rather big - on the one hand we have a vendor caught in the act, on the other there are multiple miners that could be malicious but there’s no evidence to support that yet, and pretty much all mining software would need to be affected at the same time to get the same impact as what we would see if the Z9 is exploited once it has pushed GPUs out.

I think Proof of Stake is the best long term solution. Leave mining behind. It’s done well to get crypto this far - but I think it’s time to evolve.

Im not very knowledgeable about all of this stuff, I am just a part-timer. Does it seem like there should be this much hash from outside of pools normally, or does this indicate that we already have a massive problem with antminers?

I believe that forking away from ASICs will ultimately benefit Zencash as it will put it next to Monero to duke it out as best privacy coin. It needs to be done now though.
