Lost ZenCash account

#1

I had troubles launching the ZenCashWallet app and followed instructions to reindex. The app now launched with zero ZenCash. I have a wallet.dat file from before the reindex but doesn’t seem to load.

Do you get any errors when you try to load the wallet.dat backed up from before the reindexing operation? Is the blockchain 100% synchronized (if not you may not see the ZEN balance)? Normally the problems of the GUI not starting (solved by reindexing) do not affect the wallet.dat at all.

The most important thing is to keep a backup copy of your wallet.dat file - it must never be lost! It may be copied manually when the GUI wallet/zend are not running. The wallet.dat needs to be backed up regularly (not just once - say after every few outgoing transactions) and it MUST also be backed up after creating a new Z address.

OK I have my wallet.dat file. How do I recover?

#4

I suppose you are not very experienced with full node wallets… As a start you need to make sure you have a good backup copy of the wallet.dat (copied when the GUI wallet/zend are not running) in a safe place. Then you may start the GUI wallet (reindex if necessary) and wait for the blockchain to be 100% synchronized - this is a slow process. If all goes well, the ZEN balance will be displayed when the blockchain is synchronized.

Yes i have no experience with your wallet and was trying to move everything to Ledger Nano S after getting the news that it is available. Is there anything I can do to recuperate my 25 ZEN?

This document explains how to update the wallet and troubleshoot/reindex:

After that you need to wait for the blockchain to be 100% synchronized - this is a slow process. If all goes well, the ZEN balance will be displayed when the blockchain is synchronized.

OK thank you. Almost all ZEN recovered. Just something strange where an address I don´t know received 1 ZEN.

If you look at the screen shots, after waiting sufficiently for the blockchain synch, I had 26.33 ZEN. I attempted to send them all to my Ledger Wallet and it said successful but they never arrived. I waited for the synch to be 100% this morning and only had 25.33 ZEN to send and this addresss…
znhXSoKbkRJa6HuPbCcMe6FEXQ4GbTQvGW4 received 1 ZEN.

Any idea of what happened? I thought it just recovered my past history but I never sent just 1 ZEN to anyone. Only after buying ZEN from the exchange did I send 1 ZEN to my wallet to test I was doing it right.

If the 1 ZEN you sent on Jan 9th was somehow not sent back to an address in the same wallet, but was intended to… then one cannot be sure where it went or what might have been wrong. This is the transaction:

And with this transaction

you sent 25.33 ZEN to your ledger address znWKAVBEvi1pqaqipBAqRbfMPonxvRtW2kP. Is it confirmed as arrived in the ledger wallet?

#9

I have no idea what the transfer of the 1 ZEN is all about. But the 25.3 got to my Ledger account and is confirmed. Thank you for all your support and follow-up.
